Neurons exposed to glutamate reversibly and dose-dependently exhibit focal swellings of their neurites, that is neuronal beading. (A-D) L-glutamate exposition (0, 100 and 1,000 μM) for 30 minutes followed by washout for 30 minutes dose-dependently and reversibly increased the proportion of cultured neurons showing focal swellings of their neurites, that is neuronal beading.
