Cytokines and chemokines produced in brains of BALB/c, CcS-11 and STS mice inoculated s.c. with 10 3 pfu of TBEV. The brains were collected and cytokine production assayed on day 13 p.i. The levels of cytokine/chemokine mRNA [IFNγ (A); TNFα (B); MCP-1 (C); MIP-1α (D); MIP-1β (E); RANTES (F); IL-1α (G); IL-1β (H); IL-2 (I); IL-5 (J); IL-6 (K); IL-10 (L) and IP-10 (M)] were quantified by real-time RT-PCR and standardized to the mRNA levels of the housekeeping gene, beta actin. Data are expressed as the mean + standard deviation of the fold increase in the level of the mRNA in comparison to uninfected control mice. *p < 0.05; **p < 0.005, ***p < 0.0005.
