CD11c expression is not induced in neonatal microglia propagated in low dose GM-CSF. Primary microglia expanded either with (+) or without (-) GM-CSF were seeded into 6-well plates at 2 × 106 cells per well and incubated overnight. The following day, cells were either unstimulated or treated with heat-inactivated S. aureus (107 cfu/well) for 24 h, whereupon microglia were recovered and stained with CD11b-FITC and CD11c-PE-Cy7 for flow cytometric analysis. Cells were stained with isotype-matched control antibodies to demonstrate the extent of non-specific staining. The numbers shown in each quadrant represent the percentage of positive cells detected. Results are representative of two independent experiments.
