In the rabbits treated with 2.5 μg/kg of Stx2, a large number of microglia exhibited an ameboid form in and around the ischemic lesions in the lumbar cord gray matter (A) and extensively increased in the brain parenchyma, thalamus (B) at the onset of paralysis, when compared with the lumbar cord (C) and thalamus (D) of control rabbits injected with PBS(-), showing a ramified form of microglia.
