SBCMV induction of vascular endothelial cell growth factor (VEGF) in human retinal pericytes. Expression of VEGF165 mRNA by qRT-PCR in human retinal pericytes exposed to SBCMVinfected and heat-killed virus. Human pericytes were exposed to a human primary clinical isolate of HCMV, designated ‘SBCMV’ for 5 days. Total RNA was extracted from infected cells, followed by cDNA amplification and qRT-PCR. Fold expression was normalized to glyceraldehyde 3-dehydrogenase (GAPDH). Experiments were performed in triplicate and error bars represent the standard error of the mean (SEM). A P < 0.05 was considered significant.
