Clinical disease course of active MOG35-55 induced EAE in C57Bl/6 wildtype (apoE +/+) and apoE-deficient (apoE −/−) mice. a In male (m) mice, the absence of apoE leads to an attenuated disease severity. b In contrast, in females (f), apoE deficiency results in a worse disease course. Data were pooled from two independent experiments. Clinical disease course was assessed using a 10-grade scale and depicted as mean ± SEM. Statistical analyses: median scores analyzed with Mann-Whitney U test from onset of disease (d8) until the end of observation (d35) (***p < 0.001, **p < 0.01) and for individual time points (#p < 0.05)
