Exaggerated lipofuscin deposition in GrnKO mice is not recapitulated in Lyz-cKO mice. Representative images of autofluorescence, a surrogate for lipofuscin/NCL-like storage material, in the brains of 12-month-old WT, Lyz-cKO, and GrnKO mice are shown for the thalamus (a), CA3 region of the hippocampus (b), cortex (c), and striatum (d). In each case, quantification of the images is given in the right-most panel. Data is presented as the average integrated optical density (IOD) over the area measured in arbitrary units (a.u.). For each mouse, 4–6 images per region were measured and averaged to give a single value per animal per region. N = 5 Ctrl, 12 Lyz-cKO, and 4 GrnKO mice. Data represent mean ± SEM. p values were calculated using Tukey’s multiple comparison test after one-way ANOVA
