Sunflower seed oil and N-acetylcysteine (NAC) moderated the effects of prenatal stress on multivacuolated microglia. a Oil reduced total microglia density and the density of amoeboid and ramified microglia compared to saline. Oil with prenatal stress (PS oil) reduced prenatal stress-induced levels (solid line) of multivacuolated microglia. b Concomitant NAC with prenatal stress (PS/NAC) resulted in no difference in microglia density for any subtype compared to NS/NAC, but reduced prenatal stress-induced levels (solid line) of multivacuolated microglia.
