Co-infection facilitates greater pneumococcal entry into the CNS. Olfactory epithelium, olfactory bulb and hypothalamus were dissected from mice with saline (SAL), S. pneumoniae (SP), influenza A virus (IAV) or co-infection (SPIAV) treatment.
