CSF levels of tau markers and sTREM2 in patients without or with pre-existing dementia. In CSF, there were no correlation between sTREM2 and either t-tau or p-tau in patients without pre-existing dementia (a, c). In contrast, both CSF tau markers, t-tau, and p-tau, correlated positively to CSF sTREM2 only in dementia patients (b, d) as indicated by significant and positive correlations (rs). The correlations were calculated for all patients with or without pre-existing dementia respectively, while patients with and without delirium are indicated by separate symbols. The dotted lines show pathological biomarker cut-off level (350 pg/ml and 60 pg/ml).
