NAD+ deficits in brain tissue downregulate Sirt3 expression in microglia, followed by increased protein acetylation and redox abnormalities. Microglia are activated and neuroinflammation is enhanced, which would induce neuronal damage and result in cognitive deficits. NAM administration can reverse these changes
