Analysis of interleukin (IL)-6 gene expression in the hippocampus of SERT mutant rats. Basal interleukin (IL)-6 gene expression is not altered in dorsal (A) or ventral (B) hippocampus of mutant rats. The data, expressed as percentage of SERT+/+ (wild-type) animals (set at 100%), are the mean ± SEM of at least five independent determinations. The expression of IL-6 is upregulated in both dorsal (C) and ventral (D) hippocampus only in SERT+/− animals 1 day after an lipopolysaccharide (LPS) challenge.
