  1. RNA was extracted from resting astrocytes (C, control) or astrocytes activated for 24 h with either proinflammatory cytokines (CK: 10 ng/ml IL-1β and 30 ng/ml TNFα) or conditioned medium from LPS-activated microglia (MCM[+]). The gene expression levels were determined through the Illumina BeadArray technology using RatRef-12 Expression Beadchips. The values corresponding to each gene expressed by activated astrocytes represent the percent with respect to the values of resting astrocytes. Values of the changes in gene expression relative to activated astrocytes in Röhl’s work were extrapolated from the analysis shown in the corresponding paper [23].
