Microglia are killed by deoxyglucose. (A) Glial cultures (containing microglia and astrocytes) from rat cortex were treated ±10 mM deoxyglucose (DOG) for the indicated times, and the density of live and dead (necrotic plus apoptotic) microglia were counted. (B) Pure primary microglia from rat cortex were treated ±10 mM DOG for the indicated times and the density of live and dead (necrotic plus apoptotic) neurons were counted.
