Production of hydrogen peroxide by isolated microglial cells in the presence of Aβ1–40 peptide. Microglial cells were incubated in HBSS with 1 μM fibrillar (f) or soluble (s) Aβ1–40, or with f Aβ1–40 together with 20 μM diphenylene iodonium (DPI) for 2 hours at 37°C. Hydrogen peroxide production was measured in a fluorometric assay. Data are expressed as mean of 4–7 experiments ± standard error. Statistical analysis used: Student's t-test, p < 0.05; * – significant difference compared to the control; # – significant difference compared to samples treated with fibrillar Aβ only.
