Neurofilament heavy chain (NfH) concentration in blood plasma of C57Bl/6 wildtype mice (apoE +/+) and apoE-deficient (apoE −/−) mice after a MOG35-55-induced EAE indicates the extent of axonal damage. In the chronic phase (d26), male apoE +/+ mice show a significantly increased NfH concentration compared to male apoE −/− mice. NfH concentration was calculated as difference (Δ) between d26 and baseline (i.e., before EAE-induction). Statistical analyses: *p < 0.05 by Mann-Whitney U test
