LPS-sensitized HI induced microglial activation and BBB damage. Neuroinflammation and BBB damage were assessed 24 h after insult. The LPS + HI group had a significantly higher number of ED1(+) activated microglia (upper panel) and significantly greater IgG extravasation suggesting BBB damage (middle panel) but fewer MPO(+) neutrophils (lower panel) in the white matter than did the control group (n = 6 in each group).
