Time course experiments reveal that DHLA acts faster than the precursor LA. Five thousand HT22 cells were seeded into 96-well plates and treated with either vehicle or 25 μM of LA, DHLA, (S)-LA, or (R)-LA starting 24 h before (a), at the same time (b), 3 h (c), or 6 h (d) after glutamate addition. Graphs represent curve fits ± SEM of four independent experiments, each performed in triplicates. Significant differences between vehicle and substance treatment are indicated by asterisks (*p < 0.05; **p < 0.01; ***p < 0.001, area under the curve compared by ANOVA with Dunnett’s post hoc test)
