Microglial depletion blunts induction of proinflammatory genes by ethanol. OHSCs at 4DIV were treated with CSF1R inhibitor PLX3397 for 10 days to deplete microglia and followed by treatment of ethanol (100 mM, 4 days). At the end of ethanol treatment, slices were removed for RT-PCR analysis of proinflammatory immune gene induction. Ethanol significantly induced a TNFα (1.8-fold) and b IL-1β (2.8-fold).
