Gene expression of NF-κB-inducing kinases in the postmortem dorsolateral prefrontal cortex of controls (CON) and people with schizophrenia (SCZ). Diagnostic groups were stratified based on neuroinflammatory biotype at time of death (low neuroinflammation or high neuroinflammation). In controls, all three kinase transcripts (IKKα, IKKβ, NIK) were elevated in people with high neuroinflammation. In schizophrenia, only NIK was elevated in people with high neuroinflammation; expression of IKKα and IKKβ did not differ between neuroinflammatory biotypes. Diagnostically, IKKα mRNA was downregulated in schizophrenia compared to controls (p < 0.0001).
