Microglia phagocytic responses are influenced by proximity to ischemic stroke, sex, and menopause. An example of microglia phagosome morphology (white arrow) and summary data of microglia phagocytic ratio (phagocytic cells/total microglia cells in the image frame) in ipsilateral hemisphere regions after ischemic stroke. Phagocytic ratio is increased in proximity to the infarcted region and is different according to sex and menopause. Regional post hoc analyses (vs. ipsilateral distal region **p < 0.01, ****p < 0.0001) and sex group (^p < 0.01 vs. male mice and p < 0.001 vs. premenopause female mice) are reported in the figure.
